Syria: Failed IS attack on prison kills eight, says NGO


Islamic State claimed responsibility in a statement for the assault on a Raqqa prison run by Syrian Kurdish forces

Six members of the Kurdish security forces were killed on Monday (December 26th) in a failed assault by the Islamic State group on a Kurdish forces headquarters housing a prison where jihadists are kept in Raqqa, in northern Syria, announced an NGO.

Two jihadists were also killed during this attack carried out in the former “capital cityof IS, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH). The Kurdish Autonomous Administration confirmed that six members of the Kurdish security forces had been killed.

The Islamic State has also claimed responsibility for this attack today, despite the failures of the operation against the Kurdish prison. In a statement on the Telegram messaging app, the jihadist group claimed the attack was aimed at “avenge muslim prisoners“, in particular the jihadist women imprisoned in the Al-Hol camp, under Kurdish administration, in the north of Syria.
