DUBAI, March 1 (Reuters) – An officer of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, who was operating in Syria as a military adviser, was killed on Friday in an Israeli strike, the official Iranian agency IRNA reported.
Colonel Reza Zarei was killed alongside two Hezbollah fighters, according to other Iranian media.
The officer was killed in a strike on a building used by the Iranian military in Tartous, a coastal city in Syria, about thirty kilometers north of the Lebanese border, according to a security source.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have resolved to withdraw several of their officers from Syria following a series of deadly targeted strikes by the Israeli army, Reuters reported in February.
