New clashes took place on Thursday between Kurdish forces, aided by the international coalition, and the terrorist group at Al-Sinaa prison, but also in the surrounding streets.
At the end of Wednesday afternoon, Kurdish forces, aided by American and British soldiers, thought they were done with the Islamic State (IS) attack on Al-Sinaa prison in Hassaké, in the north – is Syrian. After six days of clashes, they officially announced that they had regained control. It was premature. This Thursday morning, the fighting continued. Between 60 and 90 jihadists were still barricaded in a dormitory and shootings broke out in the surrounding streets.
Flight of more than 40,000 civilians
The Al-Sinaa attack is on an unprecedented scale in Syria since the fall of Daesh and the eradication of its caliphate in early 2019.
