System update for PS4 & PS5: This brings you the new firmware


Sony has given the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 system software a small update. The patch does not bring any major changes – instead, a real classic can be found in the changelogs.

New update for PS4 & PS5 improves system performance

While Sony recently released an update for the PS4 and PS5 that brought some handy new features, the latest system update for the two consoles is a bit underwhelming.

If you take a look at the official changelogs, you will see that the update is official only improves the system performance of PS4 and PS5 (Source: PS4 update changelog / PS5 update changelog).

Although there are no notable changes, you will need to install the new firmware if you want to continue using the network features. For PS4 players, the update is about 470MB big, but PS5 users have to just over 1GB download.

Even if Sony mentions in the changelog that the update has a positive effect on system performance, you should not expect your consoles to run noticeably faster afterwards. We assume that there are no really measurable performance differences and that the update is primarily intended to fix minor bugs and system errors.

It can certainly be worth replacing the hard drive of your normal PS4 or PS4 Slim with an SSD, but since the two consoles only support SATA II in contrast to the PS4 Pro, the difference here is likely to be smaller.
