  • Telekom now also offers the T Phone (Pro) in Germany.
  • The cheap smartphones were developed together with Google and T-Mobile US.
  • They are intended to facilitate the spread and use of the 5G network.

The T Phone (Pro) is now available in Germany. This is announced by Deutsche Telekom, which developed the smartphone together with T-Mobile US and Google and is now selling it in its own online shop with or without a tariff.

The two models are equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G chipset, which is no longer entirely new but is quite fast. This is also used in the Redmi Note 11 from Xiaomi, for example. Above all, however, the price of the 5G cell phone should convince.

5G Internet everywhere and for everyone?

Because Telekom says it has set itself the goal of making 5G reception in the Telekom network more affordable with smartphones. Therefore, the starting prices are more in the lower price segment. The base model costs 219 euros and the Pro 269 euros.

However, it remains to be seen whether the strategy will work. Because there are now a few cell phones with 5G compatibility in the price segment under 300 euros on the market. And when it comes to availability, customers often first need a mobile phone tariff that includes the new data connection standard.

These are often not very cheap and probably a major hurdle for the spread of 5G in Germany. You can get the T Phone in the cheapest Telekom tariff, MagentaMobil XS with a tiny 5 gigabytes of data volume, for example from 44.95 euros per month. It remains to be seen whether the Telekom cell phone can comfort itself over this hurdle with performance.
