Hardware: what about endurance?

In a test by COMPUTER BILD, the TAG Heuer Connected (2020) recorded an incredibly weak runtime: it ran out of juice after just half a day. According to the manufacturer, the endurance the Connected (45 mm) improved by 30 percent. Since their battery capacity is the same, this improvement is likely to be the freshest processor Snapdragon Wear 4100+, which is also in Fossil’s latest watch. The manufacturer promises a running time of one day for the 42 mm variant. In addition to the heart sensor and GPS, a new feature is on board altimeter. A compass helps with orientation.

TAG Heuer Connected Caliber E4: Software

Probably the biggest uncertainty is about the software, because it runs Wear OS 2 – right, the old Google software that has been treading water for years. So far, only Samsung has presented a variant with a fresh Wear OS in the Galaxy Watch 4, but it doesn’t get along with the iPhone. TAG Heuer promises that there will be an update to Wear OS 3 – but when it will be and what the software will look like is unclear. It is also questionable whether the watch will continue to work with iPhones under Wear OS 3. A corresponding request from COMPUTER BILD initially remained unclear. Wear OS 2 already brings Google services with it, including the Play Store, Google Pay and Google Fit. TAG Heuer smartwatches also rely on the manufacturer’s own sports apps, for example for golfing. An app has now been added that guides fitness exercises, similar to what Garmin or Samsung have been offering for a long time.
