DFB is applying with neighbors for the 2027 World Cup

Next year the men’s European Football Championship will take place in Germany, and the women’s World Cup could follow three years later. The DFB is applying together with the Netherlands and Belgium to host the tournament.

The German Football Association (DFB) has officially confirmed its interest in jointly hosting the 2027 Women’s World Cup with the Netherlands and Belgium. After FIFA opened the application process, the trio sent the message “We are ready!” via the social media.

The three national associations have been preparing for the World Cup bid since 2020 and are “entering the bidding process with the support of their governments,” said the DFB. The common slogan is “Breaking New Ground” using the English initials of the nations, BNG – Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. South Africa and Brazil are considered to be competitors.

“We are certain that we can offer the perfect conditions for the tournament,” said DFB General Secretary Heike Ullrich. “Our aim is to present the players with the best sporting conditions, the fans with a unique atmosphere and all associations with sustainable approaches.” She emphasized: “Women’s football is currently developing well worldwide. We want to pick up on this momentum with our joint application and set another exclamation point.”

The world association announced on Thursday that the tournament will be awarded by the FIFA Congress on May 17, 2024. The final application dossiers must be submitted by December 8, 2023. The last women’s World Cup in Germany took place in 2011. This year the teams in Australia and New Zealand (July 20th to August 20th) will play for the title. The DFB women meet Morocco, Colombia and South Korea in the preliminary round.
