The French streaming platform somersault would attract several industry giants ready to buy it, such as Amazon and Molotov.

Update for November 29 at 4:30 p.m.:

This afternoon, the press agency in charge of the company FuboTV and Molotov insisted on denying the information by sending us the following message: Molotov, and its parent company FuboTV formally deny the information in La Lettre A concerning them. Indeed, to date, Molotov & FuboTV have not expressed any concrete interest or offered any offer to take over the Salto platform. Failing to fall into Molotov’s hands, will our “French Netflix” switch to Amazon as other rumors indicate?

Salto could finally have a future. The letter a informs us that after Canal+, two new influential players have expressed their interest in the SVoD specialist. Amazon and Molotov would be interested in a possible takeover and could also enter into negotiations with the current shareholders.

Salto, a success story that could continue across the Atlantic

A “French-style Netflix”: this is often how the Salto streaming platform project has been presented, the concept of which was born in 2019. And it must be said that the ambition seemed at least serious, since the biggest players in the French audiovisual sector then leaned on its cradle, with TF1, M6 and France Télévisions each taking a stake.

Two years after its launch, the results are there, without being completely. Salto thus has 800,000 users. A substantial figure, but below the expectations of the partners who were counting on 1 million users at the end of the first year. More complicated still, the three partners had to collect a total loss of 180 million euros in this project.

This led in mid-November to the announcement of the departure of TF1 and M6, ie the marketing of 66.66% of Salto’s shares. However, these departures would in no way sign the end of the platform, since Molotov TV and Amazon could settle at the negotiating table. And even get the support of the owners.

Today, if we are looking for a shareholder who believes in Salto’s industrial project, we are ready to commit to sustainability, that is to say, to leaving our content for a certain period “, thus explained on November 24 on BFM Business the director of antennas and programs of France Télévisions, Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez.

Salto, the service already available on Amazon

One of the two players in question, namely Amazon, is already very familiar with the Salto streaming platform. The latter is indeed part of the bouquet of channels to which subscribers can subscribe.

A user of the Prime service can thus afford access against 7.99 euros per month. In the event of a takeover by the group of Jeff Bezos, could this sum drop to zero?
