Takeover of Tapie’s shares in “La Provence”: Xavier Niel (Free) as a new candidate

Xavier Niel, who holds the remaining 11% of “La Provence”, via NJJ, is also a shareholder of “Le Monde” on an individual basis, as well as the owner of “Nice-Matin”, still via NJJ. The new offers had to be filed until Monday at noon at the latest.

NJJ, the holding company of Xavier Niel, the founder of Free Telecom, has submitted a new offer to take over Bernard Tapie’s shares in the regional press group Provence, of which he is already a shareholder, Xavier Niel confirmed to AFP on Monday. After the shipowner CMA CGM, NJJ is therefore the second declared candidate to take over the 89% stake held by Groupe Bernard Tapie (GBT) in Provence. Xavier Niel, who owns the remaining 11% of Provencee, via NJJ, is also a shareholder of World as an individual, as well as owner of Nice morningagain via NJJ.

Second call for tenders launched on February 1

The two groups were already candidates for the takeover of the press group during a first call for tenders closed at the end of November. A second call for tenders was launched on February 1 by the judicial co-liquidators of the companies of the ex-businessman, who died in October.

The new offers had to be filed until Monday at noon at the latest. The sealed envelopes will be opened on Tuesday during a hearing at the Bobigny Commercial Court (Seine-Saint-Denis) set for 2 p.m. This court is responsible for the liquidation of Bernard Tapie’s assets.
