March 21, 2006 : Twitter comes out of the ground under the leadership of Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass. Jack Dorsey posts his first tweet “Just setting up my twttr” (“Am installing my twttr”), marking the date of the founding of the company. Twitter was not always called Twitter, but began under the names of Stat.us then Twttr, in reference to another site, Flickr.
August 23, 2007 : Chris Messina, computer designer, suggests that developers insert the famous character # before words or expressions and refer to all other publications relating to the same expression when clicked on. The hashtag was born.
April 17, 2009 : More than three years after Jack Dorsey sent the very first tweet, a Twitter user hits one million followers. This is actor Ashton Kutcher, who is also a Silicon Valley investor. Today, with his 17 million subscribers, poor Ashton is far from Barack Obama, the most followed personality with 131 million subscribers.
October 31, 2013 : Twitter, whose IPO price is set at $26, enters the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol TWTR with a first listing at $45.10. The stock will peak at $73.31 in December 2013.
March 26, 2015 : While the video appeared on the platform a few weeks earlier, Twitter is launching the Periscope application. Allowing the user to broadcast live video to its subscribers from their smartphone, it has played a major role in giving credibility to Twitter in the media sphere. The application is permanently closed on March 31, 2021.
October 5, 2015 : Left in 2010, Jack Dorsey returns to the head of Twitter after the departure of Dick Costollo.

November 29, 2021 : Jack Dorsey announces his resignation as CEO of Twitter. Parag Agrawal replaces him at short notice. He is still the CEO.
