Tamron starts developing an Android app to configure its lenses

Tamron optician announces the development of the Tamron Lens Utility Mobile application. Like the Windows computer program Tamron Lens Utility, the application will allow you to configure the brand’s lenses.

An app-exclusive feature

With the application, the functions are similar to those of the PC program. The only originality is that it will be possible to use your phone as an additional button to activate or deactivate personalized functions. Function that it is always possible to use thanks to the physical button present on the lenses.

For the other functions available, we find:

• AB Focus: possibility of focusing between two predefined points.
• Focus Adjustment: Automatic focus shift to desired position at the press of a button.
• Setting the customization button for activating manual focus or autofocus.
• Customize button setting with a camera function.
• The dedicated focus ring can be used to adjust the iris.
• The direction of rotation of the focusing ring can be reversed.

Small subtlety: the focus travel time can be set in increments of 0.1 seconds. Along with Lens Utility for PC, this option offers eight speed levels for added versatility.

Compatibility & Availability

While the computer version arrived in 2021, Tamron announces the development of the Tamron Lens Utility Mobile app with a release in 2022. Without further details. It will be available from Android Marshmallow, version 6 of the Google operating system.

As soon as a USB-C port is available, it will be possible to use the application on both tablets and smartphones. On the other hand, it is impossible to perform a firmware update with the mobile application, it will be necessary to go through the software on the computer. Note that the USB-C cable is sold separately.

During its announcement, Tamron advances the compatibility of the application with only two lenses present in its catalog, the Tamron 28-75 mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 and 35-150 mm F/2-2.8 Di III VXD.
