Tapo C320WS: 4 Mpx sensor and color night vision for TP-Link’s new outdoor camera


TP-Link adds a new outdoor camera to its catalog with the Tapo C320WS. Improved version of the C310, it is distinguished by its 4 megapixel sensor and incorporates small projectors as a bonus to film in color, even at night.

Better known for its routers than for its surveillance cameras, TP-Link nevertheless has many references in its catalog. Four had also been announced at the last CES, now supplemented by a certain Tapo C320WS. Outdoor camera, it recalls without much surprise the Tapo C310, which is rather a good omen. This model had received a very good rating in our lab tests and is even in our guide to the best outdoor cameras for its excellent value for money.

A new sensor and spotlights as a bonus

The Tapo C320WS takes up the square shape of the C310, as well as its small wifi antennas – and its Ethernet port, for that matter – for Internet access. Like its ancestor, it is IP66 certified and therefore weatherproof, but its 4 megapixel sensor allows it to film up to 2K (2560 x 1440 pixels) and projectors are also provided on both sides of the lens to maintain color vision even after dark. Of course, a more classic infrared vision, in black and white, is also included and it is also possible to use the projectors to deter intruders, in conjunction with the also integrated siren.

The Tapo C320WS can obviously also alert the user on his smartphone when it detects an intruder, and the detection can also be refined by means of activity zones and crossing lines. TP-Link has also provided alerts when the lens is obstructed. On the other hand, the recognition of people is not evoked, just like that of animals and vehicles, function however more and more common on the external cameras. Finally, there is a microphone and a speaker to communicate with anyone who appears in front of the Tapo C320WS, as well as a MicroSD port for storing recordings locally; TP-Link also offers a paid cloud with the Tapo Care subscription.

This new camera is now commercially available at the recommended retail price of €69.99.
