Quentin Tarantino has dropped out of what was supposed to be his final feature film, titled “The Movie Critic” with Brad Pitt. The reasons still remain mysterious, but a clue is emerging.
But why did Quentin Tarantino abandon what was to be his 10th and final film? As we learned last week, the filmmaker decided to put his project known as The Movie Critic in a drawer.
Brad Pitt was to be part of the cast and renowned actors from the filmmaker’s previous films were supposed to appear in the casting. A shock for the world of cinema and its fans!
Why this abandonment?
Quentin Tarantino has not yet spoken on the subject, but the seriousness Hollywood Reporter carried out the investigation to try to understand. In essence, the magazine suggests that the filmmaker had too many doubts about this project.
An anonymous source says she’s never seen Quentin Tarantino spend so much time rewriting a project and pushing back. Others claim that he would have been enthusiastic about another project, which would motivate him more than the one currently underway. The director would therefore already be working on his new latest work.
What was The Movie Critic supposed to be about?
Announced in March 2023, The Movie Critic was to take place in 1977 in Los Angeles and follow a film critic named Jim Sheldon. An alias used by Tarantino himself when he wrote for the New Beverly cinema site, the theater he now owns in Los Angeles.
A scathing and irreverent critic working for The Popstar Pages, a porn magazine, the character was described by Tarantino as the “Travis Bickle of film criticism”, in reference to the hero of Taxi Driver, played by De Niro in 1976.
A last hope?
This isn’t the first time Tarantino has announced a film before changing his mind, like the sea serpent Kill Bill 3.
In January 2014, the director announced that the script for his western The Dirty Eight was finished. A few days later, he declared to the site Deadline that he gave up on directing the film because his script had leaked on the internet.

At the time, the director declared to the media: “I’m very, very depressed. I had completed a first draft of the script, and I didn’t intend to produce it for another year. I entrusted it to six people, and apparently it came out in public.
I will not make this film. I’m going to publish the script, and that’s it for now. I’ve given it to six people, and if I can’t trust them, I don’t want to do it. I have enough. I’m going to move on“.
Yet two years later, the film starring Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth, Demian Bichir and Bruce Dern was released in our cinemas.
