“Tarantino will direct his own versions of films from the 70s”: nice surprises expected in his latest project!

Quentin Tarantino, 60, is currently preparing his 10th and final film, The Movie Critic. The director of Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill intends to delight us with his final opus.

What can Quentin Tarantino have in store for us for his last film before he bows out? For now, we just know that his new project is called The Movie Critic and that the action will take place in Los Angeles in 1977.

The central character of the story would be named Jim Sheldon. This name was used by Tarantino himself when he wrote for the site of the New Beverly cinema, the theater he now owns in Los Angeles.

Sheldon is said to be an acerbic and irreverent critic working for The Popstar Pages, a porn magazine. Tarantino describes him as the “Travis Bickle of film criticism”, in reference to the hero of Taxi Driver, played by De Niro in 1976.

Movies within the movie?

In a long interview given to Worlddirector Paul Schrader (also screenwriter of Taxi Driver), delivered some juicy details on Tarantino’s intentions for his 10th and final film.

“Quentin is going to insert extracts from films from the 1970s. And he is also going to make his own versions of films from that era. He asked me for permission to shoot the end of Legitimate violence (1977), from John Flynnas I wrote it in the original script, before it was completely rewritten and watered down.”revealed Paul Schrader.

Quentin will insert extracts from films from the 1970s. And he will also make his own versions of films from that era.

If we believe the filmmaker, Tarantino will revisit great classics from the 1970s in The Movie Critic, a bit like he did with The Great Escape in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

In a notable sequence from the feature film, which you can see below, Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) was cast in the image in place of Steve McQueen, and the result was stunning on the big screen.

On paper, the prospect of revisiting some important works from the 1970s dusted off by Tarantino is very exciting. For the moment, the film is in the pre-production phase and should begin shooting sometime in 2024. Paul Walter Hauser (The Case of Richard Jewell) is expected to play the lead role.
