Taste and love: that's why couples like the same food video

Couples in long-term relationships are good for some clichés: They start to finish each other's sentences, make the same jokes and – the classic – sometimes unconsciously dress in the partner look until even their closest friends get annoyed with them To roll one's eyes. Now it shows: The intimate proximity to each other even ensures that the relationship partners start to like the same food.

The way to a man's heart goes through his stomach …

At least that's what a study says, comparing 100 pairs. The test persons' relationship length fluctuated between three months and 45 years in love (which one can confidently call "forever and ever"). The research team asked the couples to rate different scents and tastes based on how pleasant or uncomfortable they felt. And lo and behold: the longer the couples were together, the more similar their preferences were. Interestingly, it didn't matter how "happy" the partners had rated their relationship beforehand. But the effect was also noticeable in short relationships – in the video you can see how many weeks your tastes have been adjusting.

… and through the nose

For the experts, the finding confirms another theory: it is possible that this compatibility is not just a habit, but also contains a biological component. The more similar the partners feel to smells and tastes, the better they fit together, and the better the bond. That means: taste and relationship rock up in an endless loop, one side reinforcing the other more and more. As far as the theory at least – there is still no definitive explanation from the scientific side.

The menu for a happy life

And many couples would also quickly disagree with this finding – because presumably there are probably "hate foods" in just about every respect, which one loves more than anything, and causes nausea in others. Perhaps that is exactly the secret of the intimate long-term relationships: How to love someone even more, even though he prefers to eat "pasta with ketchup" as an adult.
