Tatjana Patitz became world famous as a supermodel in the 90s. Now the German has died at the age of 56, confirms Patitz’ model agency in New York.

This news shocked the fashion world: Tatjana Patitz, †56, died unexpectedly at the age of 56. This is now reported by American Vogue. Patitz’ model agency in New York confirmed this to the German Press Agency. However, the exact circumstances of her death have not yet been made public.

At the age of 17, Tatjana Patitz became a German superstar

Tatjana Patitz was born in Hamburg in 1966 to an Estonian father and a German father and then grew up in Sweden. At the age of 17 she was discovered by star photographer Peter Lindbergh, † 74. She celebrated her big breakthrough as a model with an advertising campaign for jeans manufacturer Levi’s. Alongside Cindy Crawford, 56, and Naomi Campbell, she became one of the most recognizable faces in the modeling world in the ’80s and ’90s.

She has a close relationship with Peter Lindbergh

The German became known above all through pictures by photographer Peter Lindbergh and was regularly in front of his camera. It was he who discovered the pretty blonde at the age of 17. In addition to star photographer Peter Lindbergh, Patrick Demarchelier, for whom she also modeled several times during her career, was one of her closest confidants. The Lindbergh Foundation now expresses its grief over the model’s death on Twitter: “We want to pay tribute to Tatjana’s kindness, inner beauty and outstanding intelligence. Our thoughts are with her loved ones and especially with Jonah. She will be greatly missed.”

Most recently, Tatjana Patitz lived in California. She leaves behind a 19-year-old son who she raised alone.
