Tax Return 2024: A campaign under the sign of simplification and Innovation

The tax declaration campaign for the year 2024 has just been launched, marking the start of an important period for millions of French taxpayers. In a drive for modernization and efficiency, the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP) is introducing significant new features to simplify this annual process, while optimizing the collection of funds essential to financing public services.

Towards Greater Simplification

This year, the DGFiP is taking a further step in the digitalization of the declaration process. With a revised online interface for better accessibility, the tax administration is ensuring that the online service is now more user-friendly, even for the less digitally savvy. The inclusion of people with disabilities in this overhaul demonstrates the administration’s desire for inclusiveness.

The big news lies in the expansion of automatic declaration, now accessible to a greater number of taxpayers. Those whose situation has not changed compared to the previous year will see their declaration pre-filled and will, theoretically, not have to take any action, unless corrections are necessary. A major step forward to simplify the lives of taxpayers and reduce potential errors.

A differentiated calendar according to the departments

The tax administration also communicated the key dates for the 2024 declaration campaign, establishing a precise timetable to avoid any confusion. Online declarations will open at the beginning of April, with deadlines staggered according to the departments:

  • Departments numbered 01 to 19 will have until mid-May to submit their declaration.
  • Those between 20 and 49 will have a deadline set at the end of May.
  • Finally, for departments numbered from 50 to 974/976, the deadline extends until the beginning of June.

These dates are crucial and mark an imperative for all taxpayers concerned, under penalty of penalties for delay.

Support and Assistance

Aware of the challenges that this obligation may represent for some, the DGFiP makes a point of supporting taxpayers. Between reinforced telephone hotlines and specific reception points, the tax administration strives to make this obligatory passage as painless as possible. Online resources, in the form of guides and explanatory videos, are also available to facilitate the process.
