Many taxpayers are targeted by various scams regarding the declaration of their income.

As every year, the period of the tax declaration is a boon for the crooks.

Beware of tax return scams

For the past few days, millions of French people have been invited to validate their tax return. As always, the period is favorable for scammers, who try to deceive the vigilance of certain taxpayers to steal valuable personal information.

These scams are rather well done by the way, since the thugs set up a fake website that looks exactly like the official website. The URL is subtly modified (to “impots.gouv.app” for example, instead of “impots.gouv.fr”) in order to mislead the vigilance of the victims. The user then fills in his personal data, and the crooks just have to steal it.

The official website for assistance to victims of cyber-maliciousness also mentions scams that refer taxpayers to fraudulent and surcharged numbers (in 0899, 0891, etc.), unlike a real call to the DGFiP which is free. The tax authorities also warn against email scams, sometimes with false forms attached, usurping the email addresses of the DGFiP and which particularly target companies.
