Taycan has to go to the workshop: Porsche is recalling thousands of electric cars

Porsche can actually be satisfied with its electric debut. The Taycan is increasingly becoming a bestseller for the sports car manufacturer. However, the number of customers who need to be improved is now all the greater. A recall due to safety defects affects thousands of electric cars.

E-car recall: Porsche has to improve the Taycan

Porsche has to improve the Taycan: become global 40,421 electric cars recalled, because they can have safety-endangering defects. They can only be remedied during a workshop visit, because the problems do not come from the software or can be remedied via it. The belt tensioners of the seat belts and the airbags can fail on affected Taycans.

The reason for the problems is apparently the wiring harnesses installed under the front seats. The wiring harnesses can be damaged when the seats are adjusted lengthways, which in turn can cause problems with the safety-related functions (source: Kfz-betrieb). If the functions fail in an emergency, there is an increased risk for the driver and front passenger.

However, the emergency notification for a functional failure should work as usual. Affected Cars inform via warning lights when a malfunction is detected.

The corresponding malfunction already led to a recall campaign in the USA in April, which has now been expanded internationally. According to the specialist website Kfz-Betrieb, the model years 2020 to 2022 that were built before May 18, 2021 are affected. The variants Taycan Sport and the Taycan Cross Turismo can also be included. In the USA, the manufacturer is contacting affected customers directly.

German Porsche customers: Official information is still missing

It is still unclear how many electric cars in Germany are affected by the recall. The Federal Motor Transport Authority for the current campaign is not yet in the official recall database. But there should be a few copies. The Taycan has long been a success as the first electric car from Stuttgart. In 2021, sales exceeded those of the classic Porsche 911 for the first time.

According to media reports, Porsche is taking care of checking the wiring harnesses as part of the recall and securing them against renewed damage. If damage is already detected, the affected parts should be replaced.
