Tayfun Korkut takes over
Hertha BSC throws out coach Pal Dardai
Pal Dardai is no longer the coach of Hertha BSC. The Bundesliga soccer team released the Hungarian and presented Tayfun Korkut, his successor. The club is only one point away from the relegation zone after four consecutive games without a win.
Hertha BSC pulls the emergency brake because of the current sporting crisis and separates from coach Pal Dardai. The Bundesliga club announced the end of Hungary two days after the sobering draw against relegation rivals FC Augsburg (1: 1). It was the fourth league game in a row without a win. The assistant coaches Zecke Neuendorf and Admir Hamzagic also have to leave.
At the same time, the club presented Dardai’s successor, Tayfun Korkut will take over by the end of the season. The 47-year-old has already trained Hannover 96, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart. Ilja Aracic comes to Berlin with him.
Sports manager Fredi Bobic said, according to the announcement: “We would like to express our thanks to Pal Dardai for his work. He took over the team in a difficult situation last season and kept it in class under challenging circumstances.” But now the time has come for something new: “With Tayfun Korkut we would like to give the team new impulses and new input. Tayfun has already proven in the past that he not only stabilizes a team, but also with his meticulous and passionate approach Can further develop his work and his idea of football. “
Korkut, who has been out of work since October 2018, says: “I would like to thank Fredi Bobic and everyone else in charge at Hertha BSC for their trust. I am full of energy and am really looking forward to this exciting task.”
It is the second time that Dardai has left the team. The former Hertha player had already trained the club’s professional team from 2015 to 2019 before he resigned from this post himself. As a coach of the U16s and coordinator of talent development, he stayed with the club. In January of this year he was promoted to head coach for the second time.
Hertha BSC is far removed from its own claims. After the 13th matchday, the club has only collected 14 points and is now in 14th place in the table. Only one point separates the team from the relegation place that FC Augsburg occupies.
