It’s official: Taylor Swift is getting into directing and has even already written her screenplay!
Taylor Swift will indeed direct her first feature film with Searchlight Pictures, the company announced today. As reported by Deadline, the acclaimed singer-songwriter has already written the original screenplay for the film which will be produced by the famous studio.
The presidents of Searchlight, David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield, thus expressed themselves on the subject in a press release.
Taylor is a one-of-a-kind artist and storyteller. It is a true joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting new creative journey.
No additional details have yet been released.
If we could see Taylor Swift in front of the camera in Valentine’s Day, Cats and, this year, in Amsterdam by David O. Russell, the singer has also already made her debut behind the camera.
All Too Well: The Short Film is a romantic drama short film released last year that she wrote and directed herself. A film adaptation of her track ‘All Too Well’ (2012), the film is accompanied by the 10-minute version of the song, released in 2021, and features Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien playing a couple whose relationship ends by collapsing.
The 14-minute production recently screened at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival in an exclusive 35mm version. All Too Well: The Short Film is also one of the short film submissions of the year, eligible for the upcoming 95th Academy Awards.

As stated by BFM TV, last September, the young woman had also expressed her desire to make a film during the Toronto Film Festival. “I wish the right opportunity came along because I love telling stories that way“, she said then. So it seems that this opportunity has finally presented itself.
Taylor Swift recently made history at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards as the only solo artist to receive 2 Best Direction awards for her work on All Too Well: The Short Film and The Man. She is also the very first artist to win 3 awards for best music video of the year and only the 2nd woman to have directed the short film that won the award for best long-form music video, again for the short film. All Too Well.
And that’s not all. With her 11 Grammys, Taylor Swift is the only female artist to have won 3 times the most prestigious award of the ceremony, that of the album of the year. In October, she released ‘Midnights’, her 10th studio album which is already breaking some records.
