Without her mother, Taylor Swift’s success would be unthinkable. What makes Andrea Swift so brilliant?
Nobody can get past her right now! Taylor Swift, 34, was named Person of the Year 2023 by “Time Magazine” and, as the business paper “Forbes” recently reported, is now a billionaire. Her eleventh studio album “The Tortured Poets Department” is currently being released. At the beginning of May, the singer will continue her world tour in Europe – and then also come to Germany. One person will be in almost every show: Taylor’s mother Andrea, 66. Not only is she her daughter’s biggest fan, no, Andrea Swift is the mastermind, the clever head, behind her child’s success.
Taylor Swift: Her mother is her driving force
“Everyone loves their mom, and every mom is important,” says Taylor Swift. “But for me she is the driving force. I talk to her first about almost every decision I make.”
When Taylor started singing at the age of three, Andrea recognized her daughter’s musical talent, which she probably owes to her grandmother’s good genes: Marjorie Finlay, Andrea’s mother, was an opera singer. At the age of twelve, Taylor began writing her first songs and wanted to become a country singer. For Andrea Swift, who was then working as a marketing manager in an advertising agency, and her husband, financial advisor Scott Kingsley Swift, now 72, one thing is clear: we support our daughter.
She is her manager and best friend
And that includes planning your career strategically. When Taylor signed her first record deal, the family deliberately moved from Pennsylvania to be near the country capital of Nashville. And from now on, Andrea will consistently use her marketing know-how for her daughter’s career. When Taylor’s first album was released in 2006, she immediately made a perfect appearance on social media – so Taylor’s name spread rapidly. A skill that also makes a lasting impression on Taylor: “I grew up with a strong woman,” she says, “that’s why I don’t do things by halves.”
To this day, Andrea Swift is part of the management, accompanies Taylor on tour, chats with fans – and paints 13, her lucky number, on Taylor’s hand before performances. The right mix of pushing and caring.
But Andrea doesn’t just give, she also gets something. For example, songs: In “The Best Day,” for example, Taylor sings about her childhood. And when Andrea was diagnosed with cancer in 2015, Taylor dedicated the song “Soon You’ll Get Better” to her.
But the best thing is that there are no mother-daughter crises. On the contrary, Taylor says: “My mom and I have always been best friends.”
