During the writing phase of her album “Folklore”, Taylor Swift felt “lonely” – although her boyfriend at the time even supported her.

Taylor Swift (34) was “lonely” while writing her album “Folklore”. At the time she was in a relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn (32). The singer told the story of her album, which was released in 2020, during her concert on Saturday in Melbourne. A fan shared a recording on TikTok.

Taylor Swift imagined being a “ghostly Victorian lady”

“I didn’t imagine being a lonely millennial woman covered in cat hair and gaining weight on white wine,” the 32-year-old told her audience. “I imagined myself as a ghostly Victorian lady wandering through the forest with a candlestick.” That’s why she only wrote the entire album “on parchment with a quill”. This is how the lyrics of the “Folklore” songs like “Betty”, “Peace” and “Exile” were created. The scenarios were all just “illusion”: “That was in my head, what I thought and what I looked like.”

Alwyn helped record the “Folkore” songs

She wrote the album during the corona pandemic and her relationship with Alwyn. In 2016, the superstar started dating the actor. The two kept their relationship very private. The 32-year-old even helped the “Lover” interpreter record some of the songs from the album. They ended their partnership at the beginning of last year.

Swift has been officially in a relationship with football player Travis Kelce (34) since September 2023. The two celebrate their relationship in public: Among other things, the singer supported her boyfriend at the Super Bowl 2024. The 34-year-old is currently on tour in Australia with her big “Eras” tour.
