Increasingly popular in Europe, the Chinese manufacturer has unveiled some details about its upcoming televisions. In an online press conference, TCL announced its advance in backlighting Mini LED. A solid advance for the upcoming release of the C93 and C83 ranges.

Better contrast, ever brighter brightness, a premium, ultra-thin design, and even more local dimming zones. Behind the words of Olivier Semenoux, head of product management at TCL Europe, are new televisions that seek to push the experience even further.

Update of April 13, 2022:

The prices and availability of the TVs mentioned were sent to us this morning by TCL, you will find them at the end of the article.

TCL C93 and C83: the best of Mini-LED technology?

Known for being the first player to market a Mini-LED TV to the general public with the TCL X10 in 2019, the manufacturer is back this year with 4 new models in its C series range. Among them, the C93 and C83 coincide with TCL’s ambition to become “thee leader in the Mini-LED TV sector “.

To achieve this, TCL evokes significant improvements which revolve in particular around 5 important points. Olivier Semenoux thus evoked a functionality “ 16-bit Ultra-precise Control “. That means better light intensity control for each mini-LED, with a total of 6,536 light levels, something that should serve to get a more detailed picture.

The second improvement is in the structure of the mini-LEDs and the way the light is emitted. TCL explains that its mini-LEDs emit a light beam in the shape of a “ round halo “. This circular emission would make it possible to reduce blooming quite significantly compared to a conventional Mini-LED backlight.

Let’s continue with an improvement called ” TCL Mini LED Direct Drive “. It would, for its part, reduce the latency that is usually observed on LCD televisions. TCL promises to bring this latency down to less than one frame, which corresponds to a delay of 0.0083 seconds. The interest is of course to make moving objects more fluid, in action scenes, for sport or gaming.

The last two changes both tackle image and color uniformity. TCL thus speaks of strictly identical mini-LEDs in wavelength, which, in fact, helps to obtain a more uniform image when it comes to displaying a single color on the screen. Finally, TCL claims to have worked on a more homogeneous display, essential to avoid the “dirty screen” effect that one can perceive when watching a football match, for example.

Apart from the Mini-LED backlighting, which is supposed to be a game-changer on a number of points, the C93 and C83 will have the particularity of being compatible with IMAX Enhanced content. The other point of divergence with the QLED C63 and C73 televisions is to be seen on the design side. The two Mini-LED ranges are indeed displayed with a premium and ultra thin design, and are winners of the Red Dot Design award.

New TCL ranges: what to remember

The models in this series do not only focus on the Mini-LED. The C63 and C73 are more classic QLED TVs, which we know will also be more affordable. On the other hand, they share quite a few features with the C83 and C93. We first think of the refresh rate of 144 Hz (only the C63 will not have it) with HDMI 2.1 for all models and compatibility with VRR and ALLM.

TCL is also introducing a Game Master Pro mode on the C93, C83 and C73 series. It will bring additional features for gamers, lowest latency, image settings depending on the game, and of course, options to activate VRR with one touch at 120 or 144 Hz, and so on. The C63 puts more emphasis on the connected services that Google TV offers. We learn in particular that TCL televisions will benefit from a Health Hub to play sports at home.

Finally, the C and P series will now both be available in 75-inch format. TCL is also going further by launching two 85-inch televisions on the C73 and P73 series as well as a very generous model with a diagonal of 98 inches.
