TCL unveils a strange doubly curved monitor and an 8K 120 Hz Oled TV

During the Global Display Tech-ecosystem conference held in Wuhan, China, the manufacturer TCL unveiled several screens with rather avant-garde technologies. We can first mention a 31-inch Oled 4K dome-shaped monitor displaying a curvature from right to left, but also from top to bottom. A decidedly strange design, undoubtedly intended for video games, but whose interest we don’t really understand beyond the technical prowess.

8K Oled 120 Hz coming soon?

Above all, it was a 65-inch Oled 8K television (or monitor?) offering an impressive definition of 7680 x 4320 px and refreshed at 120 Hz that made a strong impression. It demonstrates the manufacturer’s know-how and perhaps augurs what we could see hit the market in the months to come. Its curved design is certainly no longer really fashionable on televisions, but perhaps the Asian market is still fond of this type of panel, unless its use is entirely focused on video games.

TCL specifies that it has used its new Oled IJP panel printing technique, a process which should make it possible to reduce Oled production costs by 20%; the manufacturer also announces a reduction in light emission of 50%.

However, remember that there is almost no 8K content today and that we will have to make do with upscaling. This definition is (too) ahead of its time and although Samsung tried it with its TQ75QN800C, the future of this definition remains uncertain, between lack of interest from the cinema industry and high power consumption.

In any case, we should find out more about what’s new from TCL at CES in Las Vegas at the beginning of January 2024, in particular concerning a possible release on the European market of this 65-inch 8K and its price, which promises to be very high given the embedded technologies.
