Tears, tension problems, illnesses… The underside of preparation for the Miss France 2022 competition

Miss France candidates confided in the columns of Le Parisien on Saturday January 22. They spoke behind the scenes of the competition.

They have been transparent. For several years now, many young women have come to try their luck in the Miss France competition. This makes them dream and they hope to win the coveted title. In the columns of Le Parisien on January 22, several candidates mentioned the behind the scenes of competition preparation and they made very unexpected confidences. Indeed, they first explained that it is very complicated to follow the rhythm. “Many did not keep the imposed rhythm of fifteen days of rehearsals“, is it first indicated. “With the lack of sleep, some girls had blood pressure issues or got sick.” another candidate recalled. A situation which, according to their words, does not seem to be surprising. “Many crack during rehearsals. We said between girls that we should be paid from the first to the last day because without us, there would be no show” revealed another who later said she had “very quickly understood that it was a real job when I was told that we had no room for error, that everything we did was judged“. Moreover, their days were busy: “We chained the choreographies of almost ten hours a day, and in the evening, we had to attend dinners of representation“, affirmed one of them.Plus the shots, clips and interviews… We didn’t go to bed before midnight“, she concluded.

Shocking words. If the pace of rehearsals was very complicated for many candidates, they also lamented the salary. “For the first time, the beauty queens have signed an employment contract”, explained the Parisian. However, it is as extras that they would have been paid. “We were paid 84 euros per day, or 252 euros net in all“, assured one of them, who did not reveal her identity. For Gwenegan Saillard, Miss Champagne-Ardenne 2020, this situation is not normal. “Why only pay us for three days?“, she asked first. “The contract should cover the whole month where we make ourselves available, where we put our studies, our jobs, our lives aside“, she continued before adding: “Receiving gifts does not replace a salary. Moreover, we are encouraged to promote it on our social networks. We become volunteer muses. It’s exploitation“, she assured. A feeling shared by another candidate. “We should already have a work contract from the preparatory trip. We record lots of sequences for the show and we do photo shoots, sometimes from 6 to 10 p.m.“, she explained. “It is rare that we can stroll on the beach. When we have a little free time, we prefer to go to sleep“, she concluded.

Miss France: why have some candidates lost weight?

Participating in the Miss France pageant is a dream for many young women, but preparing for it is not always easy. In the columns of Le Parisien, they also deplored the lack of food. “Some contenders have lost up to 6 kilos“, can we first read. The reason? “Lack of food. We were clearly not given enough to eat“, testified one of them, who did not wish to reveal his identity. “Sometimes we had extra meals delivered. We felt like we were doing a Koh-Lanta“, she concluded.
