The Toulouse incubator Tech the Moon has one goal: to go live on the Moon. The first lunar house, named Eurohab, resembles a mushroom, with metal legs and a head swollen like a balloon.

This is a project of Spartan Space, a member of the Tech the Moon incubator. Its engineers want to develop solutions for a safe and sustainable habitat on our natural satellite.

Go live on the moon

The principle is simple: the gondola lands on the Moon, and in a few hours, it inflates its dome. Inside, all the resources necessary for life on the Moon will already be present. However, according to Spartan Space engineers, three major problems arise: the production of energy once on site, the health of the crew and the construction of the camp. It will therefore be necessary to find innovative solutions for the recycling of water resources and integrate them into the shuttle.

A model already exists, but unfortunately cannot yet leave Earth. EuroHab has only been tested in the Abu Dhabi desert. Although still unusable in space, the inflatable habitat could be used on Earth. Indeed, it could be easily deployed to shelter victims of natural disasters, or be placed in land areas where resources are scarce and living conditions difficult.

By the end of 2022, five more start-ups are expected to join Tech the Moon. Great prospects are on the horizon!
