Techart motorizes your manual lenses on Sony mirrorless cameras

An adapter ring with autofocus!

In 2016, Techart hit the headlines by presenting the first adapter ring to motorize manual lenses in the Leica M mount on Sony mirrorless cameras. Six years later, the second generation made its appearance. With this new version, Techart brings compatibility with a much larger number of Sony cameras and becomes compatible with the detection and tracking of faces or eyes.

In the very construction of the ring, the management of the autofocus is completely revised. Previously, a single large engine was used to achieve the point. The Leica M to Sony E Gen II AF adapter ring is now equipped with four smaller motors. The ring is thus more compact, while the autofocus is less noisy while being faster.

More compact, faster and quieter

In the other novelties, the ring makes it possible to equip a lens up to 500 g, against only 300 g previously. Firmware updates can be done directly via USB. In addition, the support on three axes of the mechanical stabilization of the sensor is not forgotten.

Finally, Techart markets additional adapter rings separately to provide compatibility with 15 additional different mounts. For example, Nikon F mounts or Canon EF mounts are supported, but also Leica R, Olympus OM or Konica AR, to name a few examples.

Price and availability

If we had already talked about Techart in 2016, it is true that we know very little about this prop supplier. The warranty on the Leica M to Sony E Gen II AF Adapter Ring (LM-EA9) is only one year, although the manufacturer makes it clear that rings purchased on Amazon or eBay will not be supported. It is therefore recommended to go directly through the Techart online store or through a French reseller.

On the other hand, if the previous version is officially sold in France, we do not yet have any information on the arrival of the new AF Leica M adapter ring to Sony E Gen II (LM-EA9) .

The adapter ring is already sold on the manufacturer’s website at $399 excluding taxes. For additional adapters, it will cost $50 per mount chosen. Shipment of orders will not begin until the end of August.
