  • The army has banned all M113 armored personnel carriers from driving.
  • The reason for this is a technical defect in the drive shaft of the vehicles from the 1960s.

A vehicle stop and thus a driving ban was ordered in order to prevent unnecessary damage to vehicles and possible accidents. A representative of the army situational tracking center told the Keystone-SDA news agency. He thereby confirmed information from “Blick”.

The army discovered the technical defect on Friday. Now each vehicle would be checked individually. The vehicle type is a model from the 1960s and is therefore one of the oldest vehicles in the Swiss Army.

The readiness of the army is therefore not at risk, it said. The M113 vehicle type is currently not used in any battalion. The next group will not work with these vehicles again until February. They will be repaired by then, said the army representative.
