Technical fault – power failure in Salzburg: 1400 households affected

Almost 1,400 households in the city of Salzburg were affected by a power outage on Tuesday evening. The reason was a technical breakdown in a substation in the Itzling district.

The incident happened around 5:15 p.m. In some cases, street lighting also failed and traffic lights did not work. There was a traffic jam. Several people got stuck in elevators and had to be extricated. It was not just the Itzling district that was affected. The electricity was also gone in other districts. Readers from Maxglan, Taxham and Schallmoos also reported to the “Krone”. And: According to eyewitnesses, the power went out briefly in the Europark – also in parts of Wals-Siezenheim. Technicians worked for two hours. Salzburg AG technicians worked for almost two hours to rectify the fault. They were finished around 7 p.m., according to Salzburg AG. Around 9 p.m. all necessary reconnections were completed. The fire brigade and police were also on duty at the substation. The defect caused a lot of smoke to develop in the building. The professional fire brigade had to ventilate the building before the technicians could get to work.
