Technical fault – smoke in the station temporarily paralyzed Vienna’s U3

Smoke developed in the Vienna subway station Zieglergasse on Friday evening. Operations therefore had to be stopped briefly. The reason was a technical malfunction, said a spokeswoman for Wiener Linien.

But it was “not that bad,” she reassured. Nobody was injured. The incident occurred on Friday evening in the U3 station Zieglergasse in the direction of Simmering. The affected passengers had to leave the train. The affected side of the station was cleared and the fire department was alerted, the Wiener Linien reported. Until normal operations began at 9:20 p.m., the U3 ran alternately in both directions on the tracks towards Ottakring.
