Tehran considers Macron’s statements with Iranian opponents “shameful”

Iran slammed the French president’s meeting in Paris with opponents on Sunday and called it “regrettable and shamefulhis statements at the end of this meeting. Emmanuel Macron had received Friday in Paris, on the sidelines of the Peace Forum, four Iranian activists, whose “revolution they are leading” in their country.

This is a flagrant violation of France’s international responsibilities in the fight against terrorism and violence and we consider that it promotes these sinister phenomena.said Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani.

According to the Élysée, on the sidelines of the Paris Peace Forum, Macron received on Friday a delegation made up of Masih Alinejad, an Iranian activist based in New York who encourages Iranian women to protest against the obligation to wear the veil, Shima Babaei, who is fighting for information about her unknown father, Ladan Boroumand, co-founder of a Washington-based rights organization, and Roya Piraei.

Macron hailedthe revolution they (the Iranian women) are leading“. “I really want to tell them again our respect and our admiration in the context of the revolution they are leading.“, said the French president.

Macron’s statements about his support for this so-called revolution led by these people are regrettable and shameful.said Kanani.

Referring to Mahsi Alinejad, the Iranian spokesperson added: “It is surprising that the president of a country that claims freedom stoops to meet a hated person (..) who tried to spread hatred and carry out violent and terrorist acts in Iran and against diplomatic representations of Iran abroad“.

Iran has been the scene of protests since the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd, arrested three days earlier by vice police for violating the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code.
