(Boursier.com) — Xavier Niel plans to launch a takeover bid for Millicom International Cellular, the Luxembourg-based telecoms operator in which he already holds nearly 30%. Niel’s holding company, Atlas Investissement, is in the preliminary stages of reviewing a possible all-cash takeover bid for Millicom, a statement said. Atlas is currently exploring financing options to support an offering price of $24 per Millicom common share, a premium of 1.8% to Millicom’s closing price Wednesday in New York. The offer would value the operator at around $4.1 billion. Millicom provides fixed and mobile telephone services in Latin America through its TIGO brand. “Given the preliminary nature of these efforts, Atlas cannot guarantee that an offer will materialize,” specifies the billionaire’s investment vehicle.
