Telekom is rolling out its new streaming offer with MagentaTV 2.0. New customers receive early access, but there is a special feature for existing customers.

Last year, Telekom presented its new live TV offer and sent it into a test phase. MagentaTV 2.0 works differently than the previous MagentaTV on an app basis and requires new apps and sometimes end devices.

As Digital Fernsehen reports, new customers will have access to MagentaTV 2.0 from February 15th. According to customer reports, the change for existing customers will begin on February 20th. However, there are currently some indications that initially only customers without a telephone or internet connection will be affected. There are apparently no timetables yet for the changeover including internet connection.

The background to this could be the media receivers that many MagentaTV customers use. The provider’s IPTV receivers are left out of MagentaTV 2.0 and do not work with the new platform. If you, as an existing customer, would like to test the availability of MagentaTV 2.0, Telekom has a separate query available on its website. This is already working now.

The new MagentaTV can be run via new apps on mobile devices, and it also works with MagentaTV One, the MagentaTV Stick and Apple TV. It can also be used on the computer via the browser.

New design, new functions

With MagentaTV 2.0, Telekom is introducing many improvements. The TV app comes in a new design with a customizable home page. Above all, it should appear simpler, clearer and tidier. There is also information about which providers your favorite films or series are available from.

Telekom also integrates voice control. Using the MagentaTV One remote control, users can search for content using voice commands. The offer also includes 100 hours of cloud storage for recording.

Many beta testers also report that they had access to more channels. These include, among other things, the regionally different studios of the public broadcasters. There is also apparently support for the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio standard

Existing customers have to change their tariff

For existing customers, the switch to MagentaTV 2.0 involves a tariff change. You should urgently check whether the price will change or whether a discount may no longer apply. In our case, we extended a private connection with MagentaTV Smart in December and received a discount for the first six months.

We could switch to MagentaTV 2.0 immediately, but lose the discount on the basic fee. According to customer service, the change would be possible at any time without additional fees, even if we are still in the middle of the minimum contract term of 24 months. In our case, this occurs after the discount has expired.
