After the departure of Thomas Sotto, Jean-Baptiste Marteau was expected to take over the reins of “Télématin”. However, it was Julien Arnaud who was chosen by France Télévisions. A choice which aroused some frustration in Jean-Baptiste Marteau, giving rise to a discussion between the two journalists.

Since September 16, 2024, Telematin has a new face: that of Julien Arnaud, former joker of the 8 p.m. from TF1. The flagship morning show of France 2, formerly hosted by Thomas Sotto, is now entrusted to the duo Julien Arnaud and Flavie Flament. But this choice was not made without some upheaval. Indeed, Jean-Baptiste Marteau, experienced journalist from France Télévisions, was the favorite to succeed Thomas Sotto. The latter left his post following various internal tensions and accusations concerning members of the team of Telematin. However, the outcome was quite different…
Julien Arnaud: an unexpected surprise for Télématin
During his last interview given to TV 2 weeks, Julien Arnaud spoke about his debut on the show. The 50-year-old presenter, accustomed to the sets of TF1, revealed that he quickly adapted to the atmosphere of Telematin alongside her new teammate Flavie Flament: “We are often told that we seem to have been on Télématin for a long time, it’s incredible!“he confided to our colleagues.
However, behind this apparent complicity with his new co-host, some pressure surrounded his arrival, in particular because of the expectations of the public and the teams.
Jean-Baptiste Marteau: the big disappointment
Jean-Baptiste Marteau, for his part, expressed his disappointment after learning that he would not take over the show. In a message addressed to his colleagues at France Info, the journalist expressed his bitterness : “I have just learned that I will ultimately not be at the Télématin presentation this season. Until very recently, everything suggested to me that this would be the case”relayed Puremedias.
This disappointment was all the more difficult to digest for the journalist, who was a serious candidate for the position. However, Delphine Ernotte, president of France Télévisions, defended her choice in an interview given to BuzzTV/Le Figaro : “Jean-Baptiste Marteau was a candidate, we studied his application seriously. But we chose the one that seemed best to us for the show“she notably confided. A hard blow for the host, who despite everything continues to play a key role within the Franceinfo editorial staff.
This conversation between Jean-Baptiste Marteau and Julien Arnaud
Although Jean-Baptiste Marteau’s frustration is palpable, the host took the time to discuss this decision with Julien Arnaud. Julien Arnaud revealed that he and Jean-Baptiste Marteau had an exchange after the announcement of his arrival in Telematin. According to Julien, the two men had a frank and respectful discussion : “Jean-Baptiste is talented, hardworking. We know each other and we like each other. We obviously talked about it together. But these decisions are not ours,” he confided in TV 2 Weeks.
