A daring promise. From January, TF1 will launch its own morning show, under the leadership of Bruce Toussaint. Simply titled Good morning !, this show promises to compete Telematin, implemented since 1984 by the public service. So, to face this new arrival, Marie Portolano made a promise that was audacious to say the least. Thursday, December 7, while the France 2 set traveled to Nancy to meet its audience, Thomas Sotto’s sidekick launched, in the enthusiasm of the warm atmosphere: “January 8 [jour du lancement de la matinale de TF1]we will be naked!”, as reported The Parisian the next day.
However, this surprising announcement seems to be unnecessary. And for good reason, in front of the newspaper’s microphone, sent on site for the occasion, many followers of the program assured that they had no intention of changing their habits. This is evidenced by the words of Sandra, 36 years old: “I might watch at first. But I think I’ll stick with it.” Or those of Jacques, having been Roger Zabel’s assistant when the show traveled to the same city, several decades earlier: “I don’t see myself changing my habits.” Enough to reassure the presenters who have shown fair play since this big announcement.
“The concept is stronger than the animator”
Friday December 1st, Thomas Sotto and Marie Portolano were invited to the microphone of Culture Media on Europe 1, just a few days after TF1 revealed the replacement of TFou by Good morning !. They notably confirmed that the new show had poached one of their columnists, namely Maud Descamps. Without any bitterness, the France 2 presenter then said: “She’s an excellent journalist, which proves that they will be inspired by us.”
Accustomed to regular changes in the media, the host also underlined: “Afterwards, in this profession, we are never more than the microphone we sit in front of. Nicolas de Tavernost [président du directoire du Groupe M6] has a sentence, which he utters in April, when the animators are renegotiating the contracts: ‘The concept is stronger than the animator.’“
