Teleperformance shares fell on the Paris Stock Exchange on Wednesday, with market operators citing the deployment by its competitor Klarna of an assistant based on artificial intelligence (AI) as the reason for the fall.

Teleperformance lost more than 14.9% before the stock was suspended at 9:57 a.m. on the Paris Stock Exchange.

Trading resumed around 10:40 GMT. At 10:51 GMT, the stock lost 27.3%, while the CAC 40 fell by 0.08% at the same time.

Two market operators cited rival Klarna’s deployment of an AI-based voice assistant as the reason for the call center group’s fall.

The assistant, resulting from a partnership with OpenAI, has been in place for a month, explains Klarna in a press release.

It carries out the work of 700 full-time employees and is expected to increase the group’s profits by $40 million in 2024, the press release said.
