Television Elton John, the Beatles, Ed Sheeran… A ”so British” evening on M6

So British! While our British neighbors have just celebrated the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, M6 is offering a special evening in the colors of the Union Jack this Friday, June 10 from 9:10 p.m. Here are three good reasons to get in front of the screen.

1/A catch-up session for those who haven’t seen ”Rocketman”

First, the channel will broadcast a biopic on Elton John never before seen on television, ”Rocketman” by Dexter Fletcher, released in 2019. The film, presented out of competition at Cannes, retraces part of the life of the king of English pop, from his childhood as a piano virtuoso, raised by a cold father and a loving mother, to international fame, passing through excesses in drugs, sex and alcohol. A 1h50 musical biography embellished with hits -”Your Song”, ”I’m Still Standing”, etc.- in which shines Taron Egerton, the actor playing Agent Eggsy in the ”Kingsman’ saga ‘. If you haven’t seen it yet, now is the time.

2/Discovering the different facets of a global icon

Then, at 11:15 p.m., a 90-minute documentary entitled ”Elton John, the story of a world icon” produced by AH Production! (2019), enriched by the testimonies of Chris (Christine and the Queens), Frédéric Beigbeder, Alex Jaffray, Pascal Nègre, Yves Bigot, Jean-Claude Jitrois, Grégoire, Marc Cerrone or even the former Star-Academician Michal. Together, they decipher the different facets of the man who, after 50 years of career, bows out at 75 with a farewell world tour passing through Paris this Saturday June 11 and Sunday June 12. Moreover, Sir Elton John, knighted in 1998, is not just a showman with eccentric outfits who alone accounts for 2% of the global music industry with more than 300 million records sold. He has also been involved for a long time in the fight against homophobia and HIV, the virus responsible for AIDS.

3/An opportunity to enjoy the film ”’Yesterday”

Finally, for night owls, the unreleased free-to-air film ”Yesterday” by Danny Boyle (2019) is scheduled from 00:50. Like ”Jean-Philippe” (2006), the French film about a parallel world in which Johnny Hallyday had never existed, the feature film by the Oscar-winning director of ”Slumdog millionaire” presents a world in which the existence of the Beatles was forgotten by all but one person, Jack. Singer-songwriter in trouble, the latter then decides to use the songs of the legendary group to make himself known, not without confronting a serious case of conscience. Note that this delightful 1h42 comedy written by Richard Curtis (”Love actually”) includes two celebrities playing themselves: James Corden, host of the famous ”Carpool Karaoké”, but also Ed Sheeran, whose c is the first real role in the cinema, after appearances in the third installment of ”Bridget Jones” and ”Game of Thrones”. Originally, it was Chris Martin who was approached to interpret the artist who takes Jack under his wing, but the singer of Coldplay had declined the offer.

Special evening devoted to the great British stars this Friday, June 10 on M6 with ”Rocketman” (9.10 p.m.), ”Elton John, the story of a world icon” (11.15 p.m.) and ”Yesterday” (12.50 a.m.) .
