Accustomed to sometimes absurd accessories, Razer is once again risking the bizarre by launching a mouse pad… in tempered glass. It remains to be seen whether the brand will be able to launch a trend with this new product, or whether it will, on the contrary, be quickly forgotten.

Razer Atlas. This is the name of the glass mouse pad launched by Razer this week. Displayed at 119.99 euros in France and currently available for pre-order, this “carpet” mainly takes the form of a large 450 x 400 mm tempered glass plate, with rounded edges.

Razer wants your mouse to slide on polished glass

This new accessory signed Razer, rather elegant let’s face it, is manufactured by CNC machining, can we read on its official page. In detail, it does not exceed 5 mm thick and benefits from a micro-engraving with a 2 μm texture allowing the optical sensors of the mice to work better than ever. Razer indeed promises “ greater fluidity to your mouse thanks to this finely textured surface. The brand also explains that it treated the glass in such a way as to give it a ” maximum tensile and impact strength “.

To ensure good adhesion to the desk and prevent slipping, the underside of this large glass plate is also covered with a non-slip rubber coating. The first glass mouse pad on the market, the accessory benefits from a 1-year warranty for the rest.

Good idea or not ?

Without being able to test it for ourselves, it’s hard to tell you if Razer’s new accessory is really worth taking an interest in other than for its atypical concept.

The brand promises that its glass mouse pad is easy to clean and maintain, but as The Verge, we wonder about certain points that are necessarily very down to earth. Will it be comfortable to use in the summer, when you’re sweating and not wearing long sleeves? Conversely, isn’t this glass surface cold and uncomfortable in winter?

We will surely have the opportunity to test this new product soon to tell you more. It will indeed begin to be delivered from March 25 in France.
