“Temptation Island” returns with season three. The format is successful in over 20 countries. These dating shows can also score points.

“Temptation Island – Temptation in Paradise” returns on March 25th with a third season and the new presenter Lola Weippert (24). Since 2019, the dating show has been of a different kind on RTL and / or TVNow broadcast. Four couples put their relationship to the test in the show – by getting to know single men and women separately.

They are accompanied by cameras and the recordings are then shown to their partner. After two weeks in “paradise”, the couples meet again, they have to decide whether their love still has a chance. The experiment was implemented in 24 international formats, initially in the Netherlands as “Blind Vertrouwen” (2001). In the same year “Temptation Island” started in the USA. These dating shows have also enjoyed international success.

“The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette”

Probably the most famous dating show “The Bachelor” was first produced in 2002 as “The Bachelor” for the US broadcaster ABC, and there are now 25 seasons. The concept: a bachelor gets to know single women in group and individual dates. At the “Night of Roses” he gives roses to his favorites – until the last rose is left for his dream woman. The show has its own version in Australia, Canada, Indonesia, India and Romania, among others. In 2003 the dome show also found its way onto German TV. In 2021, RTL showed the eleventh season. The station also developed German versions of the US offshoots “Die Bachelorette”, in which a single lady is looking for her dream man, and “Bachelor in Paradise”, in which former candidates of both dome shows go looking for love again.

“Prince Charming”

“Prince Charming” can be understood as another “Bachelor” offshoot. In the dating format, a gay man goes looking for a partner. The show premiered in 2016 as “Finding Prince Charming” on US pay TV station Logo, moderation was taken over by ex-NSYNC member Lance Bass (41) and Robert Sepúlveda Jr. (38) went looking for a dream man. Elected in October 2019 TVNow his own prince: Nicolas Puschmann (29) found the right partner in Lars Tönsfeuerborn (30), in the second season Alex Schäfer was looking for his Mr. Right. In 2021, a woman is to look for her better half in the offshoot “Princess Charming”.

“Paradise Hotel” and “Are You The One?”

In June 2020 RTL showed the second season of the TVNow original “Paradise Hotel” in a free TV premiere. Ten singles get to know each other in a luxury villa with different games and boozy evenings. New singles keep moving in and out. In the end, the winning couple will share the prize money of 20,000 euros – or one partner will go home alone with the prize. The show is based on the US original, which first aired on Fox in 2003. According to “Variety” the format has been adapted in more than 18 countries. Also with “Are You The One?” TVNow got a successful dome show format that premiered in the USA in 2014. Ten single women and ten men are looking for their counterpart, which has been determined by experts. Only when all ten couples have found each other correctly will they win a total of 200,000 euros.

“Love Island”

In the “Love Island” format, too, the participants move into a villa for almost three weeks and, at best, come together as couples. Whoever stays alone has to go. The winning couple receives 50,000 euros. In Germany, RTLzwei shows the dome show, which will have two seasons for the first time in 2021 and originally come from Great Britain (since 2005). Initially, the show was shot there with celebrities, but received a new edition in 2015 with unknown people. In 2018 the show won a BAFTA Award.

“First Dates”

Since 2018, VOX has been showing “First Dates – A table for two” (also via TVNow). TV chef Roland Trettl (49) invites singles to dinner, who get to know each other better while enjoying culinary delights and who test whether a second date will follow. The dating show celebrated its premiere in Great Britain in 2013, and the “First Dates” concept has now been implemented in around 20 countries. These include Belgium, Finland, Netherlands, Canada, Spain, USA, Brazil and South Africa. Since 2020 VOX has also been showing the offshoot “First Dates Hotel”, in which getting to know one another is expanded to include a hotel stay.

More tips for dating show fans

“Dating Naked” is better known in this country under the RTL show “Adam sucht Eva – Stranded in Paradise”. Singles meet completely naked on a tropical island and get to know each other while living together on the island. The format was implemented in several countries in 2014: the Netherlands, USA, Australia, Germany and Spain. Finland and Italy followed in 2016. The fifth season ran in Germany in 2018. The sixth season of the reality format is implemented on RTLzwei. When asked by spot on news, the station confirmed that production should start in spring 2021.

“If he is your husband, leave the lamp on. If you express yourself, you are out” – In “Take Me Out” (RTL), comedian and presenter Ralf Schmitz (43) presents 30 single ladies with a dream man, women can do more than one Laps with the buzzer decide whether you want to get to know him. In the end, the man can decide which candidate he would like to go on a date with. The show was developed in Australia under the title “Taken Out”. As “Take Me Out”, the show found its way into Great Britain, among others. There are now around 32 offshoots.

The show ran as “Beauty and The Geek” from 2005 to 2008 in the USA and was produced by Ashton Kutcher (43), among others. The program still exists in Croatia, Italy and Germany (ProSieben), there have also been offshoots in Australia, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia and Israel.
