Manchester United tries the next fresh start

The successor to interim coach Ralf Rangnick has been found: Manchester United has signed Erik ten Hag as the new head coach. The Dutchman arrives from Ajax Amsterdam and is once again set to make a successful fresh start at the Premier League club.
Erik ten Hag will be the new manager of Manchester United, succeeding caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick. This was announced by the Premier League club. The Dutchman’s contract starts at the end of this season and runs until 2025, subject to a work visa being issued for Great Britain. There is also the option to extend it by another year.
The 52-year-old is currently the coach of Ajax Amsterdam, where he has been since December 2017. “Over the past four years at Ajax, Erik ten Hag has proven to be one of the most exciting and successful coaches in Europe,” club director John Murtough said in a statement. “He is known for his team’s attractive, attacking football and his commitment to youth.” Ten Hag was Bayern Munich II coach from 2013 to 2015 before moving on to FC Utrecht and eventually Ajax, where he won two league titles and also impressed with the young team in the Champions League – also defeating Borussia Dortmund in the group stage prevailed.
Ten Hag wants success that the club ‘deserves’
The Dutchman said: “It’s a great honor to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead. Knowing the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, I’m determined to build a team capable of achieving the success it deserves.” This has been a problem for years, most recently Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was released in November after almost three years, followed by Rangnick, who will work as a consultant for the club from the coming season. The exact definition of his role is still open.
The great and successful times under coaching legend Alex Ferguson are long gone. The Scot was United’s head coach from 1986 to 2013, with him the club won 13 championships, was two Champions League winners and one club world champion.
The expectations of ten Hag are high: he is the fifth coach in nine years. Manchester United is currently sixth in the Premier League table and is fighting to take part in European competitions. On Tuesday, the weakened Red Devils lost – among other things, superstar Cristiano Ronaldo – 0: 4 at their archrival FC Liverpool. Rangnick then called for extensive changes in the club’s transfer policy.
