Ten kilometers of traffic jams – large-scale operation on the A23: man dies after a heart attack

Because a driver (45) suffered a heart attack, a Viennese rescue helicopter had to land on the Vienna Southeast Tangente (A23) on Thursday afternoon at rush hour. However, the Viennese professional rescue service could only determine death.

The emergency occurred at the Prater junction in the southbound direction. According to the professional rescue service, the 45-year-old driver suffered a cardiac arrest. His car rolled out, but there was no collision. The ultimately unsuccessful rescue operation triggered extensive traffic jams. On the A23 in the southbound direction, the vehicles stood back as far as Hirschstetten.Kilometer long traffic jamIn the northbound direction, the traffic jam – according to the ÖAMTC probably caused by onlookers – was around ten kilometers long. There was also no progress on the Ostautobahn (A4) in the direction of Vienna. Here it backed up to Schwechat. Around 5.30 p.m. the traffic situation slowly improved. Only one lane was closed in the southbound direction.
