Ten Voorde wins twice
The champion also shines at the start of the season

Larry ten Voorde just continues where he left off last season. The Dutchman won twice in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany on the first race weekend. The reigning champion is then “super happy”.

Fastest in free practice, twice on pole position and winner in both races – Larry ten Voorde (Team GP Elite) had a perfect start to the season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany. After his victory on Friday, the Dutchman also won on Saturday ahead of Laurin Heinrich (Germany / Van Berghe Huber Racing) and Christopher Zöchling (Austria / Fach Auto Tech). “I’m super happy with this top result. We prepared ourselves intensively in the tests and that has now fully paid off. It was important that I kept my concentration high over the entire race distance,” said ten Voorde. At the start of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) on the Belgian Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, 29 drivers in the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup ensured thrilling races.

Led by Pole-Setter ten Voorde, the pilots drove to the starting grid in bright sunshine and an outside temperature of ten degrees Celsius. The GP elite driver defended himself against Heinrich in the first corner – but the duel for the lead was not decided. After ten Voorde initially put around a second between himself and his pursuer, Heinrich worked his way closer and closer to the front runner as the race progressed. On the twelfth lap Heinrich attacked out of the slipstream with his 510 hp cup vehicle, but found no gap to overtake ten Voorde. The 24-year-old saw the checkered flag two laps later and 0.9 seconds ahead of Heinrich. “Shortly before the end there was a chance for me, but unfortunately that didn’t work out. Still, second place twice is a great start into the season for me,” said the 19-year-old.

Zöchling secured third place on the podium. “I wanted to put pressure on the men in front right from the start, but could only keep up with the pace in the first few laps. In the end, in third place, I scored important points for the championship,” said the experienced Carrera Cup driver. Porsche Junior Ayhancan Güven (Turkey / Phoenix Racing) finished fourth and was satisfied: “Of course I would have liked to have made it further, but after being out on Friday, fourth position is a good result. In the last few laps it might be even more was possible, but I didn’t want to take too high a risk in terms of the overall standings. ” Fifth place went to Leon Köhler (Germany / Nebulus Racing by Huber) ahead of Sandro Kaibach (Germany / Fach Auto Tech) and the Dutchman Max van Splunteren (GP Elite).

Bastian Buus (Denmark / Allied-Racing) crossed the finish line as the best rookie on the 7.004 kilometer long traditional route in the Belgian Ardennes and finished eighth. In the ProAm classification, Carlos Rivas (Black Falcon Team Textar) was delighted with a double victory: after first place on Friday, the Luxembourger won his class on Saturday ahead of Georgi Donchev (Bulgaria / Nebulus Racing by Huber) and Kim Hauschild (Germany / HRT Motorsport ). “Two action-packed races with many duels on one of the most famous tracks in the world, that was a successful start to the 32nd season. Both the young talents and the long-time veterans have ensured great motorsport. That is exactly what defines our one-make cup,” said Hurui Issak, project manager of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany.

After his two wins at the start, the championship leader is called ten Voorde (50 points). Heinrich (40 points) and Zöchling (32 points) complete the top three. The next two races of the season will be held by the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. The one-make cup will be a guest at the ADAC GT Masters event in the double run from May 14th to 16th.
