Tencent is reportedly looking to make several full acquisitions of studios and publishers

The year 2022 is in a way the year of consolidation for the video game industry, with takeovers flying in all directions and giants that never stop growing. Apart from the traditional players in the market, we have seen that Asia, and in particular China, was in the process of increasing its position in the video game sector, in particular via two very powerful groups, NetEase and Tencent. While the former is bringing more and more Western talent and artists into its fold, the latter continues to buy large shares in flagship companies, such as Ubisoft. And obviously, that is no longer enough for Tencent, which is aiming even further.

Who will be acquired by Tencent?

The Reuters site published a new article in which it indicates that Tencent is currently rethinking its expansion strategy in the video game market. If in the past, the Chinese giant grabbed a few minority shares in several different groups (we are talking about more than 800 companies), he is now reportedly looking to make major acquisitions by completely buying out some businesses.

Reuters describes this new approach as being more agressive », with a focus on the European market. It is not yet known whether Tencent has certain studios or publishers already in the sights (in addition to Ubisoft), but it is to be expected that the publisher will weigh more and more heavily on the Western market.
