Slightly set back from the historic heart of San Cristobal de La Laguna, a colonial town in the north of Tenerife (in the Canary archipelago), Avenida San Diego is a peaceful axis lined with opulent villas. The historic center, famous for its pedestrian streets and its houses with colorful facades, is located a hundred meters away. Its architecture has inspired the construction of many cities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The cloister of the former Augustinian convent.

The former Augustinian convent, built in the 16the century, housed the first university on the island, in the 18e century, then a public higher education institution. Today there is a museum with works of art and scientific collections. With its Canarian pine paneling and lush vegetation, the Renaissance cloister echoes the patios of neighboring houses. But the calm that reigns there and the red stone columns recall its initial function.

The Casa Museo Los Sabandenos.

For more than fifty years, the musical ensemble Los Sabandenos has traveled all over the world to make Canarian folk music known. When the group returns to the island, they rehearse and compose in a traditional 18th century house.e century, part of which is open to the public. Visitors discover photos retracing its history, its gold records and its instruments. They can even exchange with the artists when they are passing through.
