Tenerife, one bedroom, five possibilities

Slightly set back from the historic heart of San Cristobal de La Laguna, a colonial town in the north of Tenerife (in the Canary archipelago), Avenida San Diego is a peaceful axis lined with opulent villas. The San Diego Boutique Hotel is housed in the former home of a prominent island family, tucked away behind a large porch.

Of its five spacious bedrooms, suite n° 2, upstairs, is the most requested. Equipped with a double bed and a chest of drawers in dark wood, it has a private lounge overlooking the green garden and its date palms. A rocking chair and a sofa invite you to read, a cast iron table and rattan armchairs allow you to sit down to write or have a cup of tea.

In the common areas, English-style furniture sits alongside contemporary pieces, including a desk with black and white stripes like Buren columns. Guests can sit on velvet sofas or around a chess table. Pastries under a bell are at their disposal all day long. For breakfast, served on the veranda, the cook prepares eggs on demand, in addition to the continental buffet and according to different recipes that she lists while brandishing her slate.

The historic center, famous for its pedestrian streets and its houses with colorful facades, is located a hundred meters away. Its architecture has inspired the construction of many cities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

750 meters away: find peace in a cloister

The former Augustinian convent, built in the 16th^e century, housed the first university on the island, in the 18^e century, then a public higher education institution. Today there is a museum with works of art and scientific collections. With its Canarian pine paneling and lush vegetation, the Renaissance cloister echoes the patios of neighboring houses. But the calm that reigns there and the red stone columns recall its initial function.

900 meters away: visit the house of local glories

For more than fifty years, the musical ensemble Los Sabandenos has traveled all over the world to make Canarian folk music known. When the group returns to the island, they rehearse and compose in a traditional 18th century house.^e century, part of which is open to the public. Visitors discover photos retracing its history, its gold records and its instruments. They can even exchange with the artists when they are passing through.
