Tenet: Did Christopher Nolan make a sequel to "Inception"?

Do the two films "Inception" and the upcoming "Tenet" by Christopher Nolan have more in common than the first glance suggests?

On August 26th, Christopher Nolan's (50) impressive blockbuster "Tenet" should finally be released in German cinemas. Before that, on August 14th, the director's sci-fi film "Inception" can be admired on the big screen of selected cinemas for the 10th anniversary of the film. If you haven't seen the strip about dream and time levels, you should maybe catch up on it. After all, rumors have been circulating through the net for a long time that "Tenet" could be the (spiritual) sequel to "Inception".

The same universe?

The fact that the rumor mill can simmer cheerfully in this regard is due to the fact that almost nothing is known about the plot of the new Nolan film. Purely optically and with regard to the setting shown, both films could easily be set in the same universe: a not too distant future in which modern technology can penetrate dreams ("Inception") or manipulate time ("Tenet"). .

As is well known, Nolan held onto the originally planned "Tenet" cinema release in July 2020 for a long time. Why was this appointment so important to him? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that "Inception" would have hit the cinema exactly ten years earlier, in July 2010. A fan theory therefore says that there could be exactly ten years between the actions of the two films.

Same performers

Nolan likes to use the same actors in his films throughout his career. Dileep Rao (47), on the other hand, who plays in "Tenet", has only been seen in another Nolan film so far – "Inception". Could he play the character Yusuf again in it? That would make a different personality immensely exciting: Michael Caine (87) also plays in both films, in "Inception" he embodied the father of the main character Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio, 45). Maybe there is still an explanation as to whether the top has fallen over or not. One can still dream …

Such creative considerations by film fans are not hidden from the actors either. "Tenet" lead actor John David Washington (36), when asked about the sequel theory, replied charmingly to the "Esquire" page: "I would say, 'Tenet' is like in-laws to 'Inception'. They are related by marriage. You meet for Thanksgivings, family barbecues and the like. Apart from that, one lives in Europe, the other in Compton. "
