Caroline Garcia won her first WTA tournament on Saturday after three years of drought by winning 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4 against Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the final in Bad Homburg, Germany. This is the 8th career title for the 28-year-old, who had not played in the final since her victory in June 2019 in Nottingham.

Caroline Garcia back at the top just before Wimbledon? The Lyonnaise won her first WTA tournament on Saturday after three years of drought by winning 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4 against the Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the final in Bad Homburg in Germany. This is the 8th career title for this 28-year-old player (75th in the world). She had not played in the final since her victory in June 2019 in Nottingham, already on grass, at a time when she was among the best in the world (4th in 2018). No Frenchwoman had won a tournament of this level (WTA 250 and above) since Fiona Ferro in Palermo in August 2020.

“The last few months, the last few years have not been super easy”

“It means so much to me,” Garcia said in English on the court as he received his trophy, recalling his long slump, “when you don’t know when your next win will be, when you’re unlucky, everything going the wrong way and you lose a lot of matches”.

“The last few months, the last few years have not been super easy with few results, a lot of physical glitches so you have a lot of doubts,” she conceded before the final.

Army for Wimbledon?

At Wimbledon (June 27-July 11) which she will approach in 55th place in the world, Garcia could continue her series of victories on grass: she will face in the 1st round the Briton Yuriko Miyazaki, recipient of an invitation and 206th in the world.
