After Les Déguns, released in September 2018, Claude Zidi Jr., son of the famous filmmaker Claude Zidi, unveils his second feature film, Tenor. This time, the director is alone at the helm of this comedy. Indeed, Les Déguns was co-directed with Cyrille Droux.
After the neighborhoods of Marseille, Claude Zidi Jr. takes us to the heart of the capital alongside Antoine, a young suburbanite who studies accounting without much conviction, dividing his time between the rap battles he practices with talent and his sushi delivery job.
During a trip to the Opéra Garnier, his path crosses that of Mrs. Loyseau, singing teacher in the venerable institution, who detects in Antoine a raw talent to hatch.
Despite his lack of lyrical culture, the young man was fascinated by this form of expression and was persuaded to follow Mrs. Loyseau’s teaching. Antoine has no choice but to lie to his family, his friends and the whole city for whom opera is a bourgeois thing, far from their world.
To interpret this sushi delivery man who discovers a vocation for lyrical singing, Claude Zidi Jr. called on MB14, alias Mohamed Belkhir. This is the first film role for this 27-year-old singer, revealed in season 5 of the show The Voice thanks to his beat-box performances.

Michèle Laroque, currently appearing in So We Dance, embodies the teacher who will take the young tenor in the making under her wing.
This comedy echoes other feature films of the same genre released in recent years. French cinema seems fond of these beautiful stories where two very distant worlds meet and go beyond their prejudices.
We can notably cite La Mélodie, in which Kad Merad teaches the violin to a shy teenager in a difficult class. In Fingertips, Lambert Wilson becomes the mentor of Mathieu, a young burglar gifted for the piano.
Daniel Auteuil also played the pygmalions for Camélia Jordana in Le Brio. Released in 2017, this film featured a young suburban law student training for an elite speaking contest.
Tenor will hit theaters on May 4.
