Tense situation with relegated
Werder is expecting just under 20 transfers

The current team of SV Werder Bremen will change a lot – although the season start in the 2nd Bundesliga against Hannover 96 is due next Saturday. Above all on the side of the outflows there should be plenty to do, because the relegated person has to save.

These are ambitious plans that promise a lot of work for the coming weeks: Werder Bremen’s managing director Frank Baumann assumes that the face of the squad will change tremendously in the first division relegated. “All in all, I still expect a number of 15 to 20 transfers by August 31st (Note from editor: Then the transfer phase ends)“, said Baumann in a video interview published at the digital season opening on the club homepage.

The season in the 2nd Bundesliga begins this weekend with a home game against Hannover 96 (Saturday, 8.30 p.m. in the live ticker at ntv.de)However, transfers can still be processed for a good six weeks. Above all, Werder have to sell players because of the tight financial situation. “The outflows will be a little higher,” said Baumann therefore. The ex-professional himself wants to withdraw a little from the everyday business of the professional team after relegation and focus more on his tasks as a sports director. To this end, Clemens Fritz, head of professional football at the Green-Whites, should move even closer to the team.

“Clemens will play an even stronger role in leading the team and the coaching team,” announced Baumann. The ex-professional will sit on the bench next to the new coach Markus Anfang at the games and, together with the coach, will also hold the press conferences before the games. “I’m really looking forward to getting into the day-to-day business of the team and taking on even more responsibility,” said Fritz.
