The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is also of great importance for the USA. A few days ago, President Biden promised to send thousands of troops to Europe to deter Russia. Now the first reinforcement troops have landed in Wiesbaden.

According to the US military, the first of a total of 2,000 US soldiers sent to Europe by US President Joe Biden against the background of the Ukraine crisis have arrived in Wiesbaden. As a spokesman for the US armed forces announced, the soldiers landed in the Hessian state capital in the evening. The spokesman did not provide any information on their exact number.

When the soldiers were relocated from Fort Bragg in the US state of North Carolina to Wiesbaden, the US Army “worked closely with the German allies,” the spokesman said.

Amid the massive tensions with Russia, the Pentagon announced on Wednesday that it would send 1,700 soldiers to Poland and 300 more to Germany. 1000 US soldiers currently stationed in Bavaria will be sent to Romania. “The current situation makes it necessary for us to strengthen the deterrence and defense posture on NATO’s eastern flank,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said.

Russia sees threat from NATO

According to Western sources, Russia has gathered more than 100,000 soldiers and heavy equipment on the Ukrainian border. The West therefore fears a Russian attack on the neighboring country. Russia rejects the allegations and at the same time states that it feels threatened by NATO.

Ukraine, meanwhile, made another attempt to persuade the German government to supply defense weapon systems. According to a report in the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, Ukraine sent a wish list for arms deliveries to the federal government. The letter therefore lists in detail numerous weapon systems required by Ukraine.
